Harriers were given a tough workout by Unibond Division One side FC United of Manchester in the summer sunshine at Aggborough.
The visitors knocked the ball around well in spells but never really threatened Scott Bevan in the Harriers goal. The game didn't really come to life, the heat and the fact that it was Harriers' second game in three days probably didn't help. Harriers didn't get a decent chance of scoring unti lthe 26th minute; James Constable jinked his way into the penalty area before rolling the ball into the path of Justin Richards who turned and hit a shot toward the top corner of the net but Sam Ashton was able to push it away.
The deadlock was broken four minutes before the interval when Rory Patterson latched on to a long ball over the top of the Harriers defence and held off Jon Munday before slotting his shot past Bevan into the bottom corner of the net. Harriers were soon level, however, Jonny Harkness' long ball was missed by a defender and as Constable challenged Ashton the ball ran loose to Brian Smikle who rolled it into the empty net.
The second half never got going, the game degenerated into a tired pre-season game with little or no goalmouth action or incident of note. In the last minute Rhodri Giggs broke clear through the inside-left channel but Bevan was alert and saved at his feet. Straight away Harriers counter-attacked and Matthew Barnes-Homer lobbed into the side netting.
