** LATEST NEWS **
- 29 September - A disastrous night for Harriers as they are
thrashed 4-1 by Blackpool in front of the TV cameras. Some poor defending
let Blackpool romp into a two goal lead, Stuart Brock was twice caught out at
his near post in the space of eight minutes n the first half, and after
the break the defence went AWOL to allow the visitors to cruise to the three
points. Despite being second from bottom, Blackpool played like the
team they were expected to be before the season started with Paul Simpson
being a particular threat. Andy Ducros' first goal for the club was
the only bright spot for the Harriers on a very disappointing evening.
- 28 September - Tomorrow night Sky bring their cameras
to Aggborough to screen a game live for the first time. The game will
bring into opposition two former Liverpool teammates in Jan Molby and
his opposite number Steve McMahon. Blackpool, who were relegated last season,
have not adjusted to life in the Third very well and only goal difference
is keeping them off the bottom of the table. Harriers will be looking to
extend ther four game unbeaten run and move as high as third, if only for one
night. Ian Foster is unlikely to return, his hamstring is still causing
problems as is Steve Pope's. Tim Clarke is also a doubt and so the in form
Stuart Brock will continue. Expect the following line-up: Brock, Clarkson,
Stamps, Bogie, Hinton, Smith, Bennett, Horne, Bird, Ducros, Hadley.
- 23 September - No goals but a well deserved point at
Ninian Park as Harriers survive a barrage from their hosts and go close
to snatching victory themselves. The game was a tightly contested affair which
could have gone either way, Cardiff had the ball in the net once in each
half and Harriers hit the crossbar. Cardiff first had a goal disallowed
for a foul on Stuart Brock (Tim Clarke didn't even make the bench), and
then later had one ruled out for offside. Tony Bird, playing alone up front
with Stewart Hadley missing, had Harriers' best chances of the first
half forcing saves from 'keeper Walton on each occasion, and late on
Dean Bennett headed against the bar. In the end Harriers were content to hold
on for a draw and a point that keeps them up with the leading pack.
- 22 September - Harriers face Cardiff tomorrow hoping to
end the Bluebirds' unbeaten start having done the same to Leyton Orient
last weekend. Harriers have been boosted by the return to fitness of goalkeeper
Tim Clarke two weeks after knee surgery, although Ian Foster is unlikely to
make the squad before next Friday's game with Blackpool. Also missing will
be Steve Pope who has a hamstring injury, his season just gets worse, and
Thomas Skovbjerg who has returned to training with the first team this week. Tony
Bird will be looking forward to the game as a former Cardiff player, and Jan
Molby is expecting a hot reception as a former Swansea manager. Cardiff
are one of the favourites for promotion with Bobby Gould as manager and a
stream of cash being thrown at team building, £500000 has been spent on Daniel
Gabbidon of West Brom today, and goalkeeper Andy Marriott is also considering
a £300000 move to Ninian Park. A large crowd is expected tomorrow, Cardiff
are currently the best supported team in the division with an average gate
of 8463. Expect Harriers to line-up as follows: Brock, Clarkson, Stamps,
Bogie, Hinton, Shail, Bennett, Horne, Bird, Ducros, Hadley.
- 21 September - Dylan Kerr has been released from his short
term contract by Jan Molby after a breach of club discipline. The player, who
made his debut in last Saturday's victory over Leyton Orient, had returned to Scotland
ostensibly to fetch more clothes, but when he asked for more time off before returning Jan Molby
felt this unprofessional and cancelled his contract. In his time with the
club, Kerr made just one substitute appearance and scored no goals.
- 20 September - The Floodlit League fixture at Walshes Meadow
tonight ended all square as the youth team were held 0-0 by WBA.
- 19 September - Steve Pope is set to be sent out on
loan when Ian Foster returns to fitness. Manager Jan Molby is looking to
keep the numbers down in the squad when everyone is fit and Pope is the prime
candidate to be sent away. The defender who has yet to feature in the first
team this season is suffering with an eye problem and is also last in the
pecking order behind defenders Hinton, Smith and Shail.
- 16 September - A close game sees harriers come from behind
to end Leyton Orient's unbeaten run. After going behind early on to
Iyseden Christie's goal, Harriers had plenty of possession but couldn't
convert their chances. Orient will be disappointed that they were unable to
maintain their lead, or even increase it, and went home empty handed. As
the game seemed to be going away from Harriers, Andy Ducros set up both
goals within the space of six minutes, two headers from Craig Hinton
and Dean Bennett. Late on Harriers sent on Andy Corbett for his Football
League debut and also gave a debut to Dylan Kerr.
- 15 September - Harriers entertain unbeaten Leyton Orient
tomorrow looking to end a run of four games without a win. Jan Molby has
an almost complete squad to choose from, Tim Clarke and Ian Foster are still
injured and will not play. Despite his disappointment at the team's
inability to maintain the lead against Southend on Tuesday, the manager is
likely to name an unchanged side: Brock, Clarkson, Stamps, Webb, Hinton,
Shail, Bennett, Horne, Bird, Barnett, Hadley. Orient come to Aggborough not
having lost in the league since April, a run of 11 games.
- 12 September - Mark Shail's first goal for the club
is not enough to ensure victory over ten-man Southend at Roots Hall. Harriers
appeared more lively from the start, but it was Southend who had the
first goalscoring chance when Scott Houghton blazed over the bar from 20
yards, a feat he performed again from the same spot before half-time. Harriers
went ahead after 27 minutes when Shail roe to powerfully head home Barnett's
corner. After the break Harriers contined to control the match, and gained
a numerical advantage when Kevin Maher was sent off for his second yellow card
after 51 minutes. The sending-off, however, spurred Soouthend, and they
gradually came back into the match giving Harriers a couple of scares before
Leo Roget was given too much room and fired a screamer into the top corner
of Stuart Brock's goal. Harriers came back at their hosts for the remaining
ten minutes, but neither Tony Bird or Gary Barnett could convert the chances
that came their way.
- 9 September - A dour struggle at Underhill ended all
square 0-0, Harriers' first league draw of the season. Stuart Brock made
a surprise appearance in goal despite his hand injury and on the bench was
new signing Dylan Kerr. Neither side really looked like scoring, although
Stewart Hadley went close with a lob late on and Dean Bennett had a
first half shot pushed onto the post by home keeper Lee Harrison.
- 8 September - With a growing injury list, Jan Molby
is set to hand a debut to Brendan Murphy in tomorrow's game at Barnet.
Stuart Brock injured a hand before Tuesday's game with Walsall and will
only sit on the bench tomorrow. Good news is that Scott Stamps came through
a run out in the reserves on Wednesday night at Hereford and may make the
team if he suffers no reaction, Ian Foster, however, is less likely to make
it as his hamstring injury is not yet healed, also missing will be the
suspended Tony Bird. Expect the following line-up try to return to
the winning form of the previous two games following two home defeats:
Murphy, Clarkson, Stamps, Bogie, Hinton, Shail, Bennett, Horne, Webb,
Ducros, Hadley. Barnet have no injuury worries and will also be
looking to bounce back after being knocked out of the Worthington Cup in midweek.
- 5 September - Harriers are out of the Worthington Cup, losing to
a late, fortunate, Darren Byfield goal. Walsall came to Aggborough well
organised, in a similar fashion to Carlisle on Saturday, and prevented
Harriers from playing their normal game. Syewart Hadley had Harriers'
best chance when he headed into the side netting in the first half, but
in general Harriers struggled to find a way through up front. With the game
heading towards extra-time a defensive mix up allowed Byfield to score the
winner.
- 4 September - Harriers face in-form Walsall tomorrow
looking to bounce back from Saturday's defeat at the hands of Carlisle.
Ray Graydon's men come to Aggborough with a 100% record in the league
after 5 games and will provide another stern test for the Harriers as
they look to progress in the Worthington Cup. The tie is finely balanced
after the first leg a fortnight ago which ended 1-1. St@tto's predicted
Harriers line-up is: Brock, Clarkson, Stamps, Bogie, Hinton, Shail, Bennett,
Horne, Bird, Foster, Hadley.
- 2 September - After almost 12 twelve months, Harriers
are beaten at home in the league. Carlisle are the victors after a tight
encounter which saw Ian Atkins' men come to Aggborough intent on defending
and stopping Harriers from playing their normal passing game. The winning
goal was a classic counter-attack, Harriers failing to convert their best
chance of the match and wihin seconds the ball was in the back of their
own net.
- 1 September - Harriers entertain Carlisle tomorrow
with several injury doubts. Tim Clarke damaged his knee in last week's
victory over Halifax and is facing surgery and six weeks out. Also hurt
are Scott Stamps and Ian Foster who picked up knocks down at Brighton
but may play tomorrow. Paul Webb and Steve Pope both came through
the Reserves' draw down at Worcester on Wednesday, however. Expect Harriers
to line up as follows tomorrow: Brock, Clarkson, Stamps, Bogie, Hinton,
Shail, Bennett, Horne, Bird, Ducros, Hadley.
