** LATEST NEWS **
- 31 May - Harriers are reported to be introducing
a team of cheerleaders for next season, to be known as "The Harrier
Jump Jets".
- 30 May - With Jan Molby away on holiday, Aggborough
has been a quiet place for the last week or so. Neil MacKenzie is
still yet to sign his new contract, Paul Barnes who Harriers were
interested in has joined Doncaster as player-coach, while Carl
Ruffer could still be a target as he has been sacked by Chester. Wolves
are alledged to have made a bid of around £1,000,000 for Craig
Hinton, although chairman Lionel Newton has dismissed it as paper
talk.
- 16 May - Neil MacKenzie has been offered a new
contract, but has yet to respond, as has Daire Doyle. Talks have
also been going on with the agent of Cambridge's Alex Russell who
had a trial in the reserves in the victory over Rushden on April
30. Stevenage have also shown an interest in Harriers' released
defender Steve Pope.
- 15 May - Andy Ducros and Craig Hinton are both set
to have surgery to clear up long standing injuries. Ducros has been
suffering from tendonitis for much of the season, and Hinton has
a groin problem.
- 13 May - Jan Molby has this week admitted defeat
in his quest for two new signings, Carl Ruffer the Chester central
defender and Paul Barnes a striker from Bury. Ruffer had a trial
in the Harriers reserve team earlier in the season but he is still
under contract at Chester and Molby feels that the £30000 asking
price is too high. Barnes has been on loan at Nuneaton recently
but they are short of money and cannot afford him, however, Doncaster
have offered him a Player-Coach role which could steal him away
from Harriers.
- 8 May - Thomas Skovbjerg has surprisingly been
released as the rebuilding continues. The popular Dane will be
returning to Denmark to seek fresh challenges.
- 7 May - The Reserves wrap up the League title in
fine style, beating Hednesford's second string 11-0. It is the
first time that Harriers have won the Central Conference.
- 5 May - Harriers' season ends in defeat, losing by
the only goal of the game at York. Tim Clarke and John Durnin made
their final appearances in a Harriers shirt but couldn't go out on
a high, Clarke at fault for the goal, and Durnin failed to get a shot
at goal all afternoon. Harriers can look back on a mixed season
and start looking to the future and building a team to challenge
the upper reaches of the league.
- 4 May - Tim Clarke and Steve Pope have been released
as the clearout continues. Re-signing, however, are Andy Corbett,
Ben Davies and Daire Doyle. Corbett and Doyle have two year deals
and Davies one. Also signing for the first time are Lee Ayres (two years)
and Peter Faulds (one year).
Harriers visit York for the first time tomorrow to end their
first Football League campaign. It is Harriers' last chance of a
double, havin beaten The Minstermen 3-1 at Aggborough. The only
players missing from the squad are long-term hamstring victim Ian
Foster and Mark Shail who has been given time off to be with his
wife nd new baby, although Jan Molby is expected to make changes
to the team and bring in some of the younger players, I predict the following
Harriers line-up: Clarke, Medou-Otye, Stamps, Doyle, Hinton, Smith,
Bennett, Davies, Corbett, Durnin, Skovbjerg.
- 2 May - John Durnin has been released by the club as
Jan Molby clears space in the squad for new players. One of these
players could be Paul Sheerin of Inverness Caledonian Thistle, a
goalscoring midfielder, or Chris Lightfoot who has had two trial
games in the reserves.
